MyWorld User Manual

Starting the application

When you look at the 7 components of the application, it’s fair to ask: ‘Why is this one application, instead of 7 separate applications?’.
The answers:

  • This way I only have to install and distribute one application, instead of several applications.
  • Libraries are used by several components, therefore the total of the separate applications would be much greater than the single combined application.
  • There are some dependencies. For example Finan uses Person information from the Rolodex.

A disadvantage would be that you always would have to go through the main menu window, also when you just need e. g. the Unit Converter.
This disadvantage is avoided by making it possible to directly start any of the components and skipping the main menu window completely. Therefore a Windows shortcut is supplied to start the MyWorld application and one for each of the components.

User settings

Most components require user settings, e. g. to tell the application where to find the required information. These user settings are stored in XML files, which may be edited directly with a text editor. However it’s usually more convenient to use the ‘User Settings Editor’ which can be found under the ‘File’ menu of each component which required settings.
