Recording GPX tracks
Using an Android phone
Use the OsmAnd (or OsmAnd+) app
In order to record GPX tracks, you have to activate the ‘Trip recording’ (‘Track opnemen’ in Dutch) plugin. To do this open the menu and go to the ‘Plugin-manager’. There activate the plugin.
Recorded files can be found under:
- Android/data/net.osmand/files/tracks/rec for OsmAnd
- Android/data/net.osmand.plus/files/tracks/rec for OsmAnd+
Using a WearOS watch
Use the Ghostracer app
Install this app on your phone and watch and connect it to a Strava account. After recording on your phone, the GPX track is synchronized to your Strava account and from there you can export the GPX track.
Navigating along a GPX track on a wear OS watch
Using GPS Navigation (Wear OS) (tested on Galaxy watch 4)
Go to the Play Store and install GPS Navigation (Wear OS) on your watch.
To put a GPX track on your watch also install File Transfer (Wear OS) on your watch and act as follows:
- From a Windows 11 PC
In the system tray, right click on the bluetooth-devices icon and select ‘send-file’. Select the device that you want to send the file to (e.g. Galaxy Watch 4).
Select the file to send, but don’t click Next yet.
On your watch open the File Transfer app and accept that your watch is visible for 300 seconds.
Now on the PC click Next and the file will be transferred to the Downloads folder on your watch. - From an Android phone
Note: with the ‘Files by Google’ app you cannot send a .gpx file over Bluetooth.
Install ‘Total Commander‘ on your phone.
Long press on the file to be transferred. In the pop up menu select ‘Copy/Move/Send via bluetooth’ and select ‘SEND VIA BLUETOOTH’.
On your watch open the File Transfer app and accept that your watch is visible for 300 seconds.
Now on your phone select the device to send the file to (e.g. Galaxy Watch 4).
